HCL has unveiled a new tablet that has been designed specifically around the needs of the Indian consumer. The Android 2.3, 7-inch WVGA tablet, called the X1, is priced at Rs. 10,490 and comes with attractive features like full HDMI playback and Indian apps.

Harsh Chitale, CEO, HCL Infosystems, was quoted as saying - " The X1 ME tablet promises to bring great value by defining on-the-go user experience with its innovative design, display and technology".

We totally agree with the design and desplay part. The X1 ME looks pretty sleek and is quite good to hold.

The technology part sounds good but could have been even better.

The X1 is endowed with Android 2.3 OS, which seems kind of old. They have put in a 1 GHz CPU and 512 MB RAM, which means impressive hardware at a good price.

Surprisingly, they have placed a 2-megapixel camera at the lower part of the front panel.

They have pre-loaded India-centric apps such as Hungama and Cleartrip, which clears our mind about their India-centric product vision

One of the surpring things about the  X1 ME tablet is that it won't have Android market but about 10,000 pre-selected apps.

The USPs of this tablet remain its full HDMI support which makes it easy to connect to a TV or a PC, 3G and Wi-Fi support and mostly its price tag.
