Nokia has announced on its website that it would be launching the N9 on the 23rd of next month. The N9 will be the first device Nokia new platform - the Meego OS.

Nokia, by the way of this announcement has discredited speculations of a Sept. 15 launch. The N9 launch is also supposed be exciting as Nokia is juggling many balls at once.

Nokia's first Windows 7 device - the Sea Ray is also releasing around the same time along with its most recent update to its operating system - the Mango OS.

It is rare that a major manufacturer tries its hand at two operating systems at once. But as Nokia is following a downtrend, it might go all out.

Lets take a look at this handset.

The Nokia N9 will be one its sleekest phones till date. It is a super-slim handset equipped with a crisp 3.9" AMOLED display. The device is thin but it cannot be called delicate. Nokia has equipped it with a gorilla glass coating for enhanced durability.

Not only that, It also has a curved glass screen along with a polycarbonate body that enables greater antenna support. This results in better reception, better voice quality and fewer dropped calls.

This smartphone has much more to offer. It is equipped with an 8-MP HD camera with a Carl Zeiss lens. It will most probably offer 16-64GB of storage along with a 1GHZ processor. Additionally, it is equipped with Near Field Communication (NFC) which enables one to easily share images and videos with other devices.

But the most important feature is its operating system - the Meego. The Meego is a Linux based OS. It is touted to offer an enhanced GSM, GPRS and HSPA+ support. It would also have the ability to integrate multiple SIMs and Buetooth connections. Furthermore, It would offer much better USB, WiFi and BT-PAN connectivity.

Nokia's head of design Marko Ahtisaari, sums it up - "…this is just the beginning. The details that make the Nokia N9 unique—the industrial design, the all-screen user experience, and the expressive Qt framework for developers—will evolve in future Nokia products."

The N9 has got us excited but unfortunately, its India release date is not yet known.
