UP police puts rape victim behind bars; culprit absconding
Bulandshahr (Uttar Pradesh): In a classic goof-up on Tuesday, a 10-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped, was put behind bars by the police after she approached them to file a complaint.
She was accompanied by her mother.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police Gulab Singh two women constables have been suspended, while two sub-Inspectors, including the station-in-charge, have been sent to the Police Lines following the incident. Singh revealed that the minor from Meerpur village was found unconscious at a field by her parents on Monday night where she had been dumped after being raped.
The victim is said to have spent several hours behind bars. She was rescued only after locals staged protests over the matter. The girl's medical examination will be conducted to confirm rape and investigations are on, said Singh. The local goon accused of raping the minor is absconding, he added.
