Rekha attends Rajya Sabha proceedings
New Delhi: Actress-turned-MP Rekha, who was nominated to Rajya Sabha a year ago, today attended the second half of the Budget Session for the first time and exchanged pleasantries with fellow members. She had come to Parliament to cast her vote for elections to the Committee of Public Undertaking. When mediapersons later approached her with queries about the functioning of Parliament which is in a state of stalemate, she did not respond.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Shukla sought to explain her silence by saying "she is unhappy that Parliament is not functioning". Rekha was nominated to the Upper House in April last year along with cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar and industrialist Anu Aga. Sachin Tendulkar did not turn up for voting today as he was busy with the IPL season but has said he will attend the Monsoon Session, Shukla said.
After Mamata Banerjee wrote to President Pranab Mukherjee urging action against former Supreme Court Judge AK Ganguly in the sexual harassment case, Bar Council of India Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra said that police can lodge an FIR in the case but the victim has to come in front and speak up.
