No rethink on Telangana, says govt
New Delhi: Unfazed by protests, the Union government on Tuesday ruled out any rethink on the decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh.
"There cannot be a rethink on the issue. A decision has already been taken by the Cabinet," said Cabinet Secretary Ajit Kumar Seth.
Seth's remarks came on a day when government reorganised the Group of Ministers (GoM) panel for working out modalities of creation of the new Telangana state for which a decision was taken on October 3.
Last week, the Cabinet had decided to go ahead with the decision to create a separate Telangana state. After the decision, the protesters intensified their agitation, crippling normal life in the Seemandhra region.
YSR Congress Party chief Jagan Mohan Reddy and Telugu Desam Party supremo N Chandrababu Naidu have gone on fast over the decision.
Commenting on the ongoing agitation in Seemandhra region, Seth said, "Normalacy shall be restored in the region."
South African anti-apartheid hero and its first elected black President Nelson Mandela died at the age of 95 at his Johannesburg home. Although Mandela had been frail and ailing for nearly a year, President Jacob Zuma's announcement of the death of the former President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate shook the nation.
