Mukherjee confers gallantry awards to armed forces personnel
New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee conferred one ''Kirti Chakra'' and twelve ''Shaurya Chakras'' to armed forces personnel for displaying conspicuous gallantry, indomitable courage and extreme devotion to duty at a solemn ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhawan here on Saturday. Two of the ''Shaurya Chakras'' were given posthumously. President Mukherjee, who is also the Supreme Commander of the armed forces, also conferred ten ''Param Vishisht Seva'' medals, one ''Uttam Yudh Seva'' medal, four Bar to ''Ati Vishisht Seva'' medal and twenty seven ''Ati Vishisht Seva'' medals to senior officers of the armed forces for distinguished service of an exceptional order. Kirti Chakra was awarded to Major Anup Joseph Manjali, Bihar Regiment / 24th battalion the Rashtriya Rifles.
Shaurya Chakra was awarded to Lieutenant Colonel Dhruvjyoti Chanda, 13th battalion the Sikh Regiment, Lieutenant (now Captain) Satya Jeet Ahlawat, Army Ordnance Corps/ 9th battalion the Sikh Light Infantry, Major Pradeep Mishra, JAT regiment / 5th battalion the Rashtriya Rifles, Major Himanshu Panwar, 26th Maratha Light Infantry battalion, Major Sandeep Kumar, 13th battalion the Sikh Regiment, Havildar Charanjit Singh, Regiment of Artillery/ 30th battalion the Rashtriya Rifles, Major (now Lieutenant Colonel) Amit Mohindra, 666 Army Aviation Squadron (Reconnaissance and Observation), Naik Krishan Kumar, Brigade of the Guards/13th Sikh Light Infantry Battalion Group (posthumous), Subedar Pradeep Beck, Bihar Regiment / 24th battalion the Rashtriya Rifles, Captain A Rahul Ramesh, Corps of Engineers / 72nd Road Construction Company (posthumous). Lieutenant Commander Inderjeet Singh (05871-T), and Lieutenant (now Captain) Manish Singh, 9th Battalion the Parachute Regiment (Special Forces).
