446 people died in a fire at a school in Dabwali, Haryana, on December 23, 1995. Children were having an end of year celebrations when the incident occurred. Victims were burned, asphyxiated or crushed to death in the incident, thought to have been caused by faulty wiring or an exploding gas cylinder. Victims included students and parents. More than 200 were injured.
