Gays organise pride parade in Mumbai
Mumbai: Seeking an equal status in the society, hundreds of homosexuals, transgender and gay rights activists took part in a colourful 'Pride Parade' in Mumbai.
The parade saw an overwhelming response as scores of family members of gays and bisexuals joined the parade to celebrate their sexuality here on Saturday. Dressed in vibrant attires and colourful wigs homosexuals, transgender and gay rights activists were seen shouting slogans and dancing to drum tunes.
"We want the society to end discriminating. We are equally normal and abnormal like others. We are not seeking any special preference; all we seek is to live in harmony and unity," said Harish Iyer, a gay rights activist.
Expressing serious concern over the ongoing protests in Andhra Pradesh, following the nod for the creation of a separate Telangana State, the Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D Raja said that the Centre must address the genuine concerns of the people and assure them that their interests will be duly protected.
