BJP backs Modi, charges Congress of diverting public attention

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday came out in full defence of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi over his remark that the Centre had spent Rs. 1,880 crores on UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi''s foreign tours, and charged the ruling Congress Party of diverting public attention.

BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said the Congress Party is misquoting Modi, and diverting attention from the issue.

"We condemn the Congress Party''s approach in diverting and adding issues which have not been raised by the chief minister of Gujarat. He has clearly quoted the media sources and raised a question. If you are genuinely interested in answering the question you would say what was the amount spent if is not 1,880 crore rupees then what was it?" asked Sitharaman.

"Just say it and if money has not been spent from public treasury say so. What stops you from answering? Do not please go by the usual method of getting nervous when you are asked an uncomfortable question," she added. Minister of State for Agriculture Harish Rawat earlier today said Modi should apologise to Sonia Gandhi for imposing wrong allegations that Rs. 1,880 crores have been spent on her foreign tours.

Rawat accused Modi for lying and said that he does not have a valid proof.
