Music therapy being tried on Pipili rape victim
Cuttack, Jan 24 (PTI) Music therapy is being tried on the Pipili gangrape victim, who is in coma ever since the incident, as allied treatment for her partial recovery.
Dr Laxmidhar Raul, a retired medicine professor and an expert in music therapy, has now joined the medical committee of SCB medical college and hospital.
Since neurologists have said that there is little hope for complete recovery of the victim, the medical committee last week had decided to go for music therapy as an allied treatment for the girl who herself was a music lover.
"We have requisitioned the services of Raul, who has been practising the therapy for last 12 years in successfully treating patients suffering from chronic diseases," Hospital superintendent D N Moharana said.
Accordingly, Dr Raul has provided a music CD to the hospital and the same is now being used in the ICU where the victim is admitted.
"The response of the patient to the music is also being recorded for further observation," said the treating doctors.
Raul claims that the same music has worked wonders in several brain dead patients. The pituitary gland in brain is stimulated when this music is played in slow sound near the ear of the patient, he said.
Expressing serious concern over the ongoing protests in Andhra Pradesh, following the nod for the creation of a separate Telangana State, the Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D Raja said that the Centre must address the genuine concerns of the people and assure them that their interests will be duly protected.
