Elephant kills one in Rishikesh
Dehradun, Oct 7 (PTI) A shopkeeper was trampled to death by a tusker at Dhalwala area of the holy town of Rishikesh, the second such case in a week, following which forest officials have asked locals not to venture out at night.
Bhagwati Prasad Nautiyal, 42, was going home last night after closing his shop when the elephant suddenly came from behind and trampled him, an official today said.
The elephant tossed him up in the air and Nautiyal who fell with a big force died instantly due to severe head injuries.
Earlier this week, one person had died in similar circumstances after being trampled by an elephant.
Meanwhile, the forest officials have asked locals not to venture out during night in view of the elephant menace in the area.
