French Director Francois Truffaut called him a one-man industry in the late-seventies, when eight of his films - released almost simultaneously - had an unprecedented success at the box office.
Thirty years later, Amitabh Bachhan has become a one-man brand - he is reportedly being paid Rs 126 crore (Rs 1.5 crore per episode) for his appearance as a pop-philosopher in the third edition of mega serial Bigg Boss that started yesterday. That's 50 per cent more than the reigning superstars, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar, who have been charging Rs 1 crore per episode for their TV shows.

Amitabh Bachchan is 700 crore man. Ok so what. You want him to be charitable? Who said he is not. He has done many charities. Now the best charities are those which remain secret or anonymous.. Chances are that he could have been man of much more worth had he not been giving charities. And what about all that tax money he has been paying all these years.. If he has earned 700 crores ask Indian Revenue department what figure is in his credit that is paid by him as income tax in all these (career) years. And this is just one tax. There are so many other form of taxes that he has been paying. And what about all those taxes that he generated with his association - so many films, so many products sales, so many events and activities that had been impacted by the undercurrent of Brand AB. And what else - he is also of an immense positive impact in society for many other reasons. He being on the top of glamour and glitter of bollywood has certainly radiated some true virtues - A vegetarian, His mastery over both the National Language Hindi as well as Global language English, His communication skills, His modesty, His social behaviour, His manners, His respect for his parents, His love and commitment towards his proffession, His reputation on ethical standards, His punctuality, His discipline..All these virtues and traits of man of his luminary has certainly been spread wide across and set higher benchmarks for Indian community and socity as whole. Come on, come to senses, 700 crore is too small a figure than the value that he has given Indian public at large with his deeds.
I think Mr Trupt's Dad is not earning anything due to his old age and has been a lame horse that is why she is so much frustrated.
I have full sympathy with you. but do not cry over a split milk.
It is an open race agreed, but some established brands like NIke and **** would have pentrated the minds of the customers such that the customers act like robots and believe that only Nike and **** products last long and they do not take a chance in buying new products entering the market there by they lose the opportunity of a even better brand.
THe case is same with the old man Amitab Bachan.
I agree with the others that he should donate his money to the cause of humanity with is the most fruitful act of being an human. I do not know why in India the entertainment industry is drawing so much attention in all the newspapers that we read, magazines are ok, because if you do not like a magazine you don't need to buy it. But we buy newspapers to read the news and keep ourself updated with the current ongoings in the world, but we see too much of Amitabachan, SRK, salman etc, why is the media projecting these people as gods?? the present youth should follow the foot steps of people like tata's, NarayanMurthy, famous doctors who really contribute to human life, not some entertainers, we all cannot fill our stomach with entertainment. THe Supreme court should bann the publicity of film stars in the newspapers. They should include more science and other intellectual columns and past history and achievements of nobel price winners than models and filmstars. especially MSN that is always displaying halfnaked models all the time, which is unhealthy to the upcoming youth of our country.
Amitabachan is too old and shameless to take away the opportunities of the younger generation, it is high time he retired. He is just an actor like any one else, but the media has always exaggerated too much about him, we have great many other actors too!! he is not the only one. If it is MIchael Jackson, I would have agreed for any amount of publicity given to him or any exorbitant amount paid to him as nothing can match his talent. No awards or accoldes is enough to praise the true talent of Micheal jackson.
I hope Indians will wake up first and appreciate the necessary things rather than nodding like fools to what media projects and publicizes.
Hi N.R.PANIGRAHY /tupty.
if amitab distribute his 700 cr to 70 cr indian hunger then each one will get 10 rs..
why don't you spend your money at least for 100 ?
Trupti V, which world you are living? Have you or anyone else in your relation ever achieved 1% success of Amitabh Bachchan. I am LAUGHING again and again on you from the time I read your message, you really need to wake up before you loose everything. I am sure there is nothing to gain for people like you.
Amitabh Bachchan is icon and inspiration to Indians from generations. He has done enough charity as well. Media is always having bad relations with him because he do not like to give interviews to them but still whole media understand the calibre of Amitabh sir and always appreciate him for that.
Instead of saying at this age he is still greedy, people like Trupti V should realise at their young age also they are not able to achieve 1% of Amitabh Bachchan is achieving at 70's. No one stoped people like Trupti & Panigrahi to earn fame and money and then do charity in whatever they want, but these guys are big failure and jealous of other's success.
Amitabh Bachchan is genius and no one can match his qualities, his versatile acting skills, his talent, his editorial skills. He is larger than life and beyond success & failure.
I agree to the idea of charitable donations but why is Mr.Bachhan being asked for it?
He has earned it himself to where he is and what he earns today...should people like Ambanis or Mittals be doing the donation part as some of their assets have been inherited.
700 CR is a miniscule amount to the assets of the capitalists.
I think its entirely Mr. Bachhans wish to donate or not donate (not judging here) but the India Inc. business men should be the ones donating. I am sure the business men are associated with many charitable organizations where the donations go to and so are the film stars.
Mr. PANIGRAHY has no right to judge or impose his ideas on anyone without prior research. And why would one donate 100/200 cr out of his 700 Cr? If you had Rs. 700 would you give Rs. 200 to charity?
