"According to the precedence in the house, the ministers should answer the questions either in English or Hindi," said Lok Sabha secretary general P.D.T. Achary.
Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister M.K. Azhagiri had said in Chennai Tuesday that DMK ministers and MPs had made a request to parliament authorities to allow them to raise and answer questions in Tamil.
"Files containing the answers to questions are written in English and Hindi. So the ministers will have to reply either in English or in Hindi," Achary told IANS.
Achary, however, said MPs could ask questions and make speeches in their regional languages. "There is provision in the constitution in this regard. But ministers are not included in this provision."
AIADMK chief J. Jayalalithaa Monday supported Azhagiri's request that the Lok Sabha secretariat should extend an 'interpreter service' to him to answer the queries of MPs in Tamil. She said ministers who do not know Hindi and English would remain mute spectators if the interpreter service was not extended.
Referring to reports that Azhagiri has been disappearing from the Lok Sabha during question hour and his deputy had to reply to the questions, Jayalalithaa had said: "Chief Minister (K.) Karunanidhi, who boasts of being the person responsible for getting classical language status to Tamil, has failed to ensure the opportunity for his son to speak in Tamil in the Lok Sabha."
Taking a dig at Karunanidhi, the AIADMK leader also said the chief minister failed to safeguard the dignity of Tamil in the Lok Sabha and asked him to withdraw his party from the union cabinet.

Azhagiri is a goonda and looter, his love for Tamil is to fool the people of Tamilnadu as he has no other contribution for Tamilnadu. He bribe voters, intimidate and attack them to steal victory. All this noise about Tamil is just for fooling people.

Parliament answers shall be in a language understandable to all the members or in an accepted common language. While we respect all national languages and the opportunity for members to get translation for their questions in their native languages.
An MP can speak in his mother tongue in the pareliament. Even if the MP speaks in a language there translators availble .
Just like Tamil is accepted in parliament Tamilnadu should remove objection to use of Hindi in Railway stations and other public places. As their objection have no basis other that the dravidian dogma. Both Dravidian party's are basically looters, looting the state exchequer meant for the poor people for their own family.
Do you think anyone in BIMARU states will accept the use of tamil or south indian languages in railway station and other public places?

kannadada kanda, I think you are missing the woods for the trees. All Indians should love all Indian languages and promote it, then we are called Indians. We cannot have different rule for Hindi, Tamil or Kannada. The Tamil in Delhi, Mumbai etc. speak fluent Hindi, the north Indians in Bangalore, Chennai, Kochi speak fluent Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam. I have not come across any instance where the people have any problem in learning or practicing any Indian language.
However, parliament should go by its set precedent until alternative arrangements are in place. The parliament provides for asking questions in any Indian language for those not understanding Hindi or English. Remember that English is not our language and about 15% of Indians only speak English.
My question is why the Tamil politician is opposing Hindi when he is not opposing English. On the contrary if the Tamil (Dravidian) politician did not object Hindi, Tamil as a classical language would have got better acceptance in India. So who is to blame?
Vembanatt and Sriharsha73, thank you both for your valuable comments, do you mean that accepting Hindi shows us as a patriot and love towards our mother tongue is equal to a Traitor, first harsha, love our mother tongue, then just for the purpose of representation to the global village Hindi is fine, but first we (all regional languages) should get its due respects in India itself, then only we can think about learning the so called language of the Country, can you please answer these questions.. how many people know Hindi in india, from when did it became official language, who made Hindi as official language, did the then policy makers took every regions of India into confidence before declaring Hindi as Official Language, when our Hindi brothers do not bother to learn any regional language, why should I learn Hindi, Just recall your memory, those were the days when we have to wait for months together to see one regional film on our DD1, but every week without a miss DD1 used to beam two Hindi Films, one on Saturday and other on Sunday,. The Hindi policy makers have always shown the regional languages in poor light. for me Hindi is just a language, which I will learn if I want to and if the place where I live in demands it, but not by force and not by making it official. Same holds true to all the regional languages of India, first treat regional language people of india as a Citizen of India, dont just treat Hindi speaking people as Indian Citizens, which is completely wrong, make all the languages of India as official languages to wipe out the disparity, then everybody will get equal status......... I wish I could have written this in my mother tongue...
