Snowfall, showers add to chill in Uttarakhand
Dehradun, Dec 11 (PTI) The higher reaches of the Himalayas in Kumaon and Garhwal regions of Uttarakhand received fresh snowfall today even as intermittent rains coupled with icy winds lashed the plains causing the mercury to drop sharply by three to four degrees below normal.
The Met department has predicted similar weather conditions in the state over the next few days.
Mercury has dropped sharply by three to four degrees due to cloudiness and intermittent rains at various places including the state capital and Haridwar, Director, Met department, Anand Sharma said.
Rains in the plains and snowfall at places located above 3000 metres in the hills are likely to occur again during 48 to 72 hours from 6 pm onwards tomorrow, he said.
Sharma advised farmers to put off irrigation of their fields for the time being as there is enough moisture in the soil.
RBI Chief Raghuram Rajan stated that more economic data is needed to be confident that economic growth is picking up, although he added that the benefits to exports from the Rupee's fall is yet to kick in.
