UP sees violence over Myanmar-Assam events, curfew in Allahabad
After Lucknow and Kanpur, the violence spread to Allahabad where a mob in the Kareli area set vandalised shops on fire and damaged vehicles. The area was placed under curfew.
"Curfew has been imposed to avoid spread of violence though it has been contained," Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) B.P. Singh told IANS.
Meanwhile the Director General of Police A.C. Sharma appealed to the people of the state not to heed to rumours. "It is my appeal to the people that they should not pay attention to mischievous SMSes and rumours aimed at disrupting communal harmony in the state," he added.
The stage is set for a fresh round of argument on the highly publicised Lokpal bill in Parliament. The Samajwadi Party has made it clear that it would oppose the Bill in the Rajya Sabha.
