J-K Congress rival factions put up united show
Srinagar, May 19 (PTI) The rival factions of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) today put up a united show with senior leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Saif-ud-din Soz appearing together in public here for the first time in three years.
"Is there any doubt?" AICC General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi said when asked if the factionalism in JKPCC had come to an end.
Dwivedi, Azad and Soz jointly addressed a press conference after the delegate session of JKPCC, the first such meeting held in the state since 2008 Assembly elections.
Soz, JKPCC president, said there might be personal differences between him and Azad but these have never come in their way of working for the betterment of the party in the state.
Azad, on his part, said neither him nor Soz have ever spoken against each other in public meetings. "If anyone amongst you can prove this wrong, I will reward him," he said.
Soz said the delegate session passed a resolution unanimously requesting AICC President Sonia Gandhi to appoint new office bearers for JKPCC including its president.
Azad said since the electorate, which would have elected the JKPCC president, were not elected themselves, the decision to nominate the office bearers was left to the party president.
The stage is set for a fresh round of argument on the highly publicised Lokpal bill in Parliament. The Samajwadi Party has made it clear that it would oppose the Bill in the Rajya Sabha.
