The reception hosted by Gordon Brown and his wife Sarah capped a week of Diwali celebrations across the British political establishment in a tribute to the contributions made by the estimated two million people of Indian origin living in Britain.
"This is a great day for Downing Street and a great day for Britain. For centuries Diwali has been celebrated - this is a historic event," a garlanded Brown said after lighting a Diwali lamp.
"I want to thank you for everything that you do. It's such a privilege for us to have you here, I want to thank each one of you individually. And I look forward to having Diwali at Downing Street every year again."

Absolutely everyone in the world needs Indians!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This clearly shows that west is moving towards India!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have to appreciate the effort of the British PM and the British and American governments in recent times. They are reaching out to the Indians and the Hindus in a big way. This may be acknowledgement of the fact of the growing importance of the Indian community as whole.
Compared to this we have to remind some politicians in India claiming to be secular and minority refusing to light lamps, refuse to join Hindu celebration etc. Gordon Brown and Barrack Obama are showing the way for such self centered people who enjoy power with out fulfilling their responsibilities. These politicians are to be shown the door and needs to be put down.
