Laos mesmerises participants of ASEAN-India car rally

Vientiane (Laos), Dec 8 (PTI) It was an experience worth remembering for the participants of the second ASEAN-India car rally as they traversed across three cities of Laos in as many days during the eighth leg of the prestigious eleven-nation event here today.
Organised by the Confederation Of Indian Industries (CII) and Ministry of External affairs (MEA), the ASEAN-India car rally made its entry to the picturesque Laos on Friday night, making the first stop at Pakse to a warm reception.
The participants were welcomed with open arms as they reached Savannakhet next evening, before ending their eighth leg with the final stop at the capital city of Vientiane tonight.
The 124 participants, who had started their journey on November 26 from Yogyakarta, Indonesia, have so far received exceptional receptions at each of the countries and Laos was no different as the whole nation turned out on the streets to cheer them.
On Friday, the participants had an unique experience as they criss-crossed three countries Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos all in a single day having their breakfast, lunch and dinner in these countries.
After a gala send-off by Vietnam at the reunification palace, the rally arrived at the Cua Khau Lu border near Cambodia and entered the country for its second leg.
The 31 Mahindra cars traversed a distance of about 250 kms in Cambodia on Friday and entered Laos through the Tropeang Kreal border in the Stung Treng province in the evening.
On Saturday, the participants were taken on a sight-seeing of Wat Phu, the ruins of a 5th century temple, located at the base of mount Phu Kao, some 6 km from the Mekong river in Champasak province at Pakse. More PTI ATK AH
