Vehicles recalled: 21 million
The largest recall of all time involved 21 million Ford, Mercury and Lincoln vehicles. The models ranged from 1970 to 1980. They were recalled due to a suspected flaw in the parking gear. Ford managed to avoid obligation to repair vehicles when it agreed to send a warning label to automatic transmission car owners.
