The 56-year-old don is the son of a Maharashtra police constable. He operates through brother Anees and close aide Chhota Shakeel. He masterminded the serial blasts in Mumbai in March 1993 which killed more than 250 people. Besides funding jehadi groups, he is into counterfeiting of Indian currencies and drugs. His influence and reach spread across the subcontinent to the UAE. He is said to be holed up in Karachi, Pakistan.
A Lashkar-e-Taeba commander, Mir is one of the suspected masterminds of 2008 Mumbai terror attack. He reportedly travelled to India as a cricket fan in 2005. His visit was the first of a series of surveillance missions which culminated in the attack on Mumbai. Headley reported to Mir from a house in Karachi. Mir guided the assault team. Mir is reportedly being held in a safehouse run by ISI.
