Facebook’s recent spending spree has once again shown that the world’s biggest tech companies can’t help themselves when it comes to spending money on new ventures.

Since the start of 2014, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has opened his chequebook twice, first aquiring messaging service WhatsApp for $19 billion (€13.7 billion) in February, before spending $2 billion  (€1.4 billion) in order to controversially buy out Oculus - a company specialising in virtual reality - the following month.

The two purchases rank highly in the list of the biggest tech takeovers of all time, alongside procurements from the likes of Google and Microsoft.
