The launch of Microsoft’s Windows 8 in October 2012 also saw the launch of a number of Bing Apps on the all new Windows 8 Start Screen. These included apps for News and Sport, both designed to bring users the latest carefully-curated news stories and features from the best publications in the world direct to their Windows laptops, mobiles and tablets.

Following in the tradition of the Bing.com homepage, these Bing Apps lead on a stunning full-screen image to illustrate one of the biggest stories of the day, carefully selected by their teams of editors around the world.

As 2013 draws to a close, we asked the editors of a number of Bing Apps countries to choose their favourite front-page image that they've chosen this year.

The image above is one of two submitted by our Spanish editors, and was used to illustrate the violent clashes between protesters and police in Egypt at the start of the year.

Click or swipe through to see more of the stunning pictures our Bing Apps editors around the world have chosen.

Disclaimer: the Bing Apps and Windows 8 are owned by Microsoft, which also owns MSN.
