US President Barack Obama, who has been in office for only nine months, has won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. The Nobel Committee awarded him the prize for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples". The decision to award Obama has split the world, with many questioning the move saying "what did he do to deserve the it?" The US President decided to donate his Nobel prize money of 10 million Swedish crowns -- roughly $1.4 million -- to a charity. Describing himself as surprised and deeply humbled, Obama said he would accept the award as a "call to action" to confront the global challenges of the 21st century.
