Brazilian rape victim 'threatened to frame us'
New Delhi: The wife of Amarjeet Singh, accused of raping his Brazilian tenant, on Wednesday came out in support of her husband and alleged that the woman had threatened to frame them in a false case if they failed to pay the Rs 2 crore demanded by her.
Amarjeet was arrested on Wednesday and sent in police remand for a day. On Tuesday, his 27-year-old tenant had alleged that he had raped her twice last week after mixing sedatives in her coffee. "I want justice. The accused must be punished under the law. I want him behind bars," the woman told mediapersons at the CR Park police station on Wednesday.
But Amarjeet Singh's wife Loveleen said: "This is a conspiracy against my husband and we can prove it. On June 28, me and my husband had complained at the CR Park police station that she was trying to threaten us and demanding money. We have a copy of the complaint."
"The woman had rented our house a few days back. But as she failed to provide her passport details for the agreement we asked her to vacate the house. But she started blackmailing us, saying that if we didn't pay her Rs 2 crore she wouldn't vacate the house and would implicate us in a false case, which she has done now," Loveleen told Newsline. She claimed the woman was being helped by some people from the university where she studies. "We don't care what people say as we have done nothing wrong," she added.
Prasun Kumar, the victim's lawyer, said his client has not yet recorded her statement before the court. "The Brazilian embassy has been informed and her parents too are in constant touch with her. The woman has told me that she will not give up and will fight," he said.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Virender Singh Chahal said the medical examination of the woman had confirmed rape.
