Belgium-based diamond merchant leaps to death
In a shocking incident, Miten Mehta (54), a Belgium-based diamond merchant and son of Vijay Mehta, CEO of Lilavati Hospital in Bandra, Mumbai, jumped to death from the family's ninth floor home in Cuffe Parade Tuesday evening.
According to the police, Mehta was speaking with his mother Sushilaben (75) when he rushed and jumped out even as his dumb-struck mother watched horrified and shocked.
Vijay Mehta is out of Mumbai.
The police attribute the act to depression or frustration.
According to the local police, the incident took place between 8.30 pm and 9 pm. Miten, who stayed in Belgium along with his family, had come to Mumbai in the first week of September. He was to return to Belgium Tuesday evening but cancelled his ticket.
Miten, a diamond merchant by profession, has not left behind any suicide note, said investigators .
Sushilaben was alone at home when the incident took place. Miten's daughter is studying in the US.
The police refused to say if Miten was mentally disturbed.
