Meet Rajan, the new RBI Governor
Meet Raghuram Govind Rajan - the man, who in 2005, warned central bankers of an impending financial crisis. The internationally renowned economist takes over as the Governor of Reserve Bank of India today. He will plunge straight into a fire-fight situation as the country battles a rapid fall in rupee, high inflation, low growth and burgeoning current account deficit (CAD).
India’s top government economist since August 2012, Rajan will be the 23rd Governor of RBI — and probably the youngest to hold that office till date. Before joining the Indian government last year, Rajan, an IIT-IIM alumnus, served as the Economic Counselor and Director of Research at the International Monetary Fund. He has also taught at the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago.
