Wheat futures up 0.97 pc



New Delhi, Feb 11 (PTI) Wheat futures prices today rose by Rs 15, or 0.97 per cent to Rs 1,560 per quintal, after speculators created huge positions after reports of likely decline in country''s foodgrain production.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, wheat for delivery in February edged up by Rs 15, or 0.97 per cent, to Rs 1,560 per quintal in an open interest of 840 lots.

The wheat for delivery in March gained Re 1, or 0.07 per cent, to Rs 1,457 per quintal, having an open interest in 8,680 lots.

Marketmen said speculative positions created by participants, triggered by reports of country''s foodgrain production is estimated to decline by 3.5 per cent to 250.14 million tonnes in 2012-13 crop year as poor rains have hit rice and coarse cereal crops, influenced wheat prices at futures trade.
