Swelect to set up 10 MW solar farm

Coimbatore, Nov 19 (PTI) Swelect Energy Systems (SWEES), formerly known as Numeric Power Systems, is setting up a 10 MW solar farm in Sivaganga in Tamil Nadu, at a cost of Rs 90 crore, which would be commissioned by August next year, a top company official said.

Coming up on a 120-acre site, the project, funded entirely through internal accruals, is claimed to be the largest single location solar farm in Tamil Nadu, R Chellappan, Managing Director, SWEES, told reporters here.

The company, which has sold its UPS business for Rs 837 crore to focus on renewable energy and foundry business, has commissioned solar farms with a combine capacity of two MW -- one each in Kuppenpalayam in the city and another in Sivaganga, he said.

Swelect is actively looking at becoming an independent power producer in the solar photo voltaic space with a clear roadmap of 10 MW farms to be installed each year in the next four years, Chellappan said.
